Carex pensylvanica (Pennsylvania sedge)

Widespread in eastern and northeastern North America. Native to woodlands. A highly variable species, often found in dry sandy soils. It can grow in full sun with adequate moisture, but it always looks better in some shade. A slow creeper, it can handle foot traffic and abuse. Clones may vary greatly, so it’s best to search out local clones or sources close to home. More selections are bound to appear as plants become more widely used. Plant from plugs 6 to 12 inches on center. Zones 4 to 9.

Carex pensylvanica var. pacificum. A West Coast form, native from Oregon to British Columbia, growing in sandy coastal soils
